As the fastest-growing social media platform, TikTok has become an indispensable part of social media strategies for businesses both large and small. But if you want to turn your TikTok account into a real business, you should know how to change your TikTok username.
The good news is that changing a TikTok username is a breeze (though there are a few restrictions). In this post, you’ll learn how to change your TikTok username. We’ll also share some best practices for creating a username that aligns with your brand, is memorable, and—most importantly—is timeless.
How to Change Your TikTok Username in 5 Easy Steps
Already have a new TikTok username in mind? Then you can change your current one in five easy steps. Here’s all you need to do:
Step 1: Open the TikTok app on your iOS or Android device. Log in using your existing login credentials (username and password), a QR code, a phone number, or a social media login.
Step 2: On the first home screen, select the Profile tab, which will take you to your profile page. Tap the Edit Profile button there.
Step 3: Tap the “Username” field (your current username should be highlighted).
Step 4: Delete the current username and enter the new one in the field provided.
Step 5: Tap “Save.” And you're all set!
Before you tap “Save,” TikTok quickly checks its database of millions of existing usernames to see if the one you want is available.
If the username you want isn’t available, you’ll have to choose something else (more on that later). If it is available, you’re good to go!
Just make sure you’ve made the right choice—and don’t make any typos! On TikTok, you can only change your username once every 30 days. So if you make a mistake, it’ll be a while before you can fix it.

How to Change Your TikTok Display Name
Happy with your username, but want to change your display name (also known as your nickname)? Changing your TikTok display name is also pretty easy.
- After completing steps 1 and 2 from the previous section, tap the “Name” field (instead of “Username”).
- The process is the same here. Just delete your current display name and enter the new name in the field provided.
- Then tap Save, and you’re all set!
Just like when change TikTok username, TikTok makes you wait before you can change your display name again. At only seven days, the waiting period isn’t quite as long in this case, but make sure you don’t make any typos anyway.
